Last night I had my second class for Cake Decorating. I am taking the Fondant and Gum Paste Course at our local Hobby Lobby. (Do you have a Hobby Lobby near you? This is one of my favorite stores – not only do they have any kind of craft supply, but decorations, furniture, and more!)
For our first assignment I needed to cover a cake and cake board with fondant. What do you think?
There a definitely a few issues…but it was my first time, well, except for the lightsaber cake.
So, as part of the class we did that fancy draping that you see on the wedding shows. We also learned some other fondant techniques for decorating. Next week we get to work on making some flowers out of gum paste – this is what I am most excited about. I want to be able to make these flowers and use them on my buttercream frosted cakes. I just am not a huge fan of the taste of fondant. Plus, when I made the lightsaber cake all my family said that they were disappointed. (Obviously they were wowed by how it looked, but disappointed in how the frosting tastes)
Here’s how the cake finished
and here is how good it was for breakfast! (Sometimes it is nice to be a fun mom!)
