If only I could understand 5 year old little boys……
or maybe I can just blame it on Friday the 13th?
Earlier this morning my boys were in the bounce house in the basement (It has been almost 100º here all week) and happened to come across a old childhood game of mine. They then asked to play it so I showed them what to do.
This game was one of my favorites as a child….
About a 1/2 hour later my 5 year old came in the kitchen with the face –
the “I am in BIG trouble” face
and said “You are going to be mad – I swallowed the ball from the game”
I actually was pretty calm – I asked if he could breathe alright and he said yes and I immediately called the pediatrician.
As I was on the phone with the nurse my 3 year old was crying ridiculously because he wanted the marble to play the game. So what does my 5 year old – get out a different toy (hidden under his bed for supervision) and take a marble out of it.
Lets just say the game, marble and hidden toy are now hidden WAY up high in the basement.
So, what do you do if your child eats a metal marble?
First- make sure there is only one. If there is more than one it could be magnetic and cause BIG trouble. (He assured me there was only one)
Second – Eat everything possible to make him poop. Fruit Juice, raisins, fiber, popcorn, etc…. (Now this will be interesting because he only goes once every week and just went, but he needs to go in the next 3 days)
Third – Go through said poop for marble (Not looking foward to this)
Fifth- If it doesn’t pass within a week make sure to call the doctor. (I’ll keep you updated as to when we see it)
This too shall pass…….literally!
Update: 8/25/10 – The marble finally passed!! After several calls to the doctors office they told me as long as he wasn’t experiencing any problems to keep looking for it. I know my son has constipation issues, but I didn’t know it took 12 days to pass something through his system! I am just glad it finally came out!
The nurse said that the last two weeks have been filled with children eating stuff – I think it is time for kids to go back to school!
